Into the Wild Experience Day 1

It was 8:30 PM. There aren't many places where I can see but still enjoy solitude, but sometimes it feels good to give the sense of sight and use other senses. Even though I'm close to nature, I am still constantly bogged down by sound of traffic from the highway, engines of airplanes, and even the loud shrieks of various boarders. I find it very hard to be truly away from society. However, time feels to have stopped being alone and clearing my mind.

Into the Wild Experience

I will be doing a natural solitude for 20 minutes a day. I will try to get up early in the morning and maybe try to go on a hike in the mountains if I can. This will allow me to devote lots of time to think about life in general and clear my mind up for so solitude time.

Standing 50 feet away, looking kind of spooked

It was 2053, the world was divided into two: living space and the landfills. My friend and I grew up right on the edge between the two sides. We often ran around the apartments exploring secret corners, but mama always told us not to ever take a step into the landfills. Said there was a great beast that’ll chew me up into bits. I believed her, of course, and never dared to step foot into the area. My friend, however, is always the one who causes trouble.

One day, after our technological feeding session, my friend and I hopped onto the taxi ride back home. Before I could react, my friend told the automated car receiver that we were heading towards the center of the landfills. Since everything is automated, I could not do anything until we arrived at the spot. As we crossed the borders, the whole ambience darkened. The sky was red hot and the musty air sifted into through the windows. I saw movements throughout the junk, but I couldn’t distinguish whether it was the heat that’s messing with my eyes or they were the people my feeding session inputted in me.  I was taught that these were the people in the landfills who were living in a dreamless society and have no hope in ever living as true humans today.

The car stopped as we stepped onto a trash mound. The stench immediately filled my nose and made breathing difficult. Suddenly, my friend immediately began running towards another taller mound. I began chasing him. Mound after mound, my friend kept running as if he were searching for something. I immediately ran out of breath. Finally, we came to a cliff, and down below, we saw a mighty white cube sitting in the middle of a crater. We sprinted towards the cube but the closer we arrived, the darker the clouds became and the hotter the temperature. The temperature was soon unbearable, but my friend went even closer so I was forced to follow. Then, we saw an open window in the cube with a cool gust coming from within. We immediately jumped in, and we landed with a crunch. It was a skeleton that we have landed on. The skeleton still had clothes on and a rotten stench tells us that it wasn’t long before this person died. There was absolutely nothing left except for a small note left. We carefully unfolded it. On it, it stated: Whatever you do, do not return.

Trapped in Nowhere Land

All who has ever set foot upon this planet has contemplated about the sole purpose of existence. Many believe that since one only lives once, hedonism, the belief that life should be filled with pleasure is the ideal to follow. Characters from The Sun Also Rises, I believe, tend to strive for such ideals. Brett, Jake and most others in the book constantly attend parties and drink. Now, of course, you could say that they are indeed living in pleasure by doing such activities; however, there is nothing much outstanding the weaves within their lives. The Nowhere Man, a song by The Beatles (lyrics here), would claim that these characters have are, in fact, going nowhere and making no progress within their lives. Robert Cohn is a man who strives to escape this repetitious path of the nowhere land by convincing his friends to travel to South America and “live life” rather than partying and drinking. However, Cohn is immediately shot down and was, essentially, forced to walk the nowhere path again. Finally, I can say that characters in The Sun Also Rises are trapped in the idea thinking that they are achieving the meaning of life; however, they fail to realize what is set out there for them the realize the real pleasure in living.
